Russian diver Povzner changed his sports citizenship to Canadian
Russian diver Viktor Povzner has changed his sports citizenship. This was reported to TASS by the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics).
“World Aquatics has approved the change of citizenship for Viktor Povzner to Canadian on February 13, 2024,” the organization said in a statement. It is noted that the 22-year-old athlete has dual citizenship of Russia and Canada.
Povzner, born to Russian parents in Toronto, previously represented Canada. In 2018, he decided to play for Russia, but in 2022 he returned to Canada.
Previously, Russian divers refused to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. They called the conditions for admission to the tournament discriminatory.
On September 4, 2023, the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be able to take part in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one swimmer. A maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.
