Dmitry Vasiliev reproached Russians wishing to compete at the Games for greed
Two-time Olympic champion in biathlon Dmitry Vasiliev spoke about Russians who want to compete at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
He reproached such athletes for greed. “The homeland is your mother. And these athletes are ready to give up their own mother for the sake of gingerbread – this is how I see those who will go to the Olympics,” Vasiliev said.
According to the former athlete, he will not follow the Olympics. “The current level of the Olympic Games is like a parody of real uncompromising sport,” he added.
On March 1, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin stood up for the country’s representatives who want to compete at the 2024 Summer Games. In his opinion, the athletes participating in the selection for the Games are the treasure of the country.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
