Antony takes the game to extra time, and United eliminates Liverpool in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup

This Sunday, the Manchester United guaranteed the last place in the semi-final of the FA Cup. Ten Hag’s team won 4-3 Liverpool, their biggest rival, in extra time, at Old Trafford. In normal time, the game ended 2-2. In extra time, Elliot scored for the visitors, but Rashford and Amad Diallo secured the classification for the home team.

With the result, Manchester United joins the Manchester CityCoventry City and the Chelsea as clubs that appear in the semi-final. The clashes will be defined through a draw.

Manchester United will only return to the pitch on the 30th of this month, after a break from football for the teams to play. The Old Trafford team visits Brentford, at the Gtech Community Stadium, for the 30th round of the English Championship, at 5pm (Brasília time). Liverpool, on the 31st, will host, at 10 am, at Anfield, Brighton, also in the English team.

United opened the scoring 10 minutes into the first half. Rashford played with Bruno Fernandes on the left and passed it to Hojlund, who finished inside the penalty area. Goalkeeper Kelleher rebounded and McTominay appeared to take advantage with his right foot.

Liverpool equalized in the 44th minute, still in the first half. Jarell Quansah dominated the ball in the middle and advanced until he invaded the penalty area. The defender passed the ball to Darwin Núñez, who only provided support for Mac Allister to finish strongly, in Onana’s left corner.

Soon after, in the 46th minute, the visitors turned the match around. Luis Díaz passed to Darwin Núñez inside the area, who finished strong, but over Onana. As a result, the ball fell to Salah’s feet and, with his right leg, the number 11 sent it into the back of the net.

In the 42nd minute of the second half, Manchester United left everything the same again. Garnacho advanced to the left of the penalty area and hit a cross. The ball hit the Liverpool defenders and ended up at the feet of Antony, who, with his back turned, managed to turn and finish into Kelleher’s bottom left corner. In the last minute, Rashford received a precise throw and dominated in front of the goal. The number 10, however, wasted the great chance.

With a draw in regular time, the match went into extra time.

15 minutes into the first half of extra time, Liverpool scored the third. Conor Bradley carried and worked the ball with young Harvey Elliott, who tried a shot from outside the box. The ball touched Eriksen’s foot, passed between Maguire’s legs and killed Onana.

In the second half of extra time, in the 7th minute, Darwin Núñez lost the ball in the defense field, leaving it to McTominay. The Scot found Rashford in the penalty area who, this time, did not disappoint and sent a low rocket into the goal, with no chance for Kelleher, equalizing for Manchester.

In stoppage time, at 16, United pulled off another counterattack after Liverpool made a mistake. Garnacho drove and passed to Amad Diallo, who finished into Kelleher’s left corner. Before entering, the ball touched the post. The player was sent off during the celebration, when he took off his shirt.
