Spartak stopped paying wages to footballer Promes arrested in the UAE
Moscow Spartak has stopped paying the salary of football player Quincy Promes, who was arrested in the UAE. This was reported by the Baza Telegram channel.
According to the source, the club stopped making transfers to the player in early March. It is noted that Spartak will be able to save about 300 thousand euros monthly. At the same time, the contract with Promes was not terminated due to possible legal difficulties.
Earlier, the Transfermarkt portal reset the market value of the legionnaire. In addition, it was reported that in case of early termination of the contract at the initiative of the player, the club will demand up to 20 million euros from him.
On March 13, Promes was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office. It was noted that the detention was related to the possibility of further extradition of the 32-year-old football player to the country. Prior to this, he was detained at border control at the country’s airport for getting into an accident and leaving the scene.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
