Spanish Football Federation removes directors who were detained

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced, this Thursday, that it removed several directors linked to the investigation for alleged corruption that led the Civil Guard to carry out searches at the entity’s headquarters.

In a statement, the RFEF said it opened “sanctioning proceedings and removed from their duties” the director of Legal Services, Pedro González Segura, and the director of Human Resources, José Javier Jímenez, both detained on Wednesday.

The federation also reported that it terminated the external contract with GC Legal, the law firm of Tomás González Cueto, another detainee in the investigation.

The searches at the RFEF headquarters are part of an investigation “linked to alleged criminal acts associated with business corruption, unfair administration and money laundering”, according to judicial sources.

Searches were also carried out at a property in Granada owned by former federation president Luis Rubiales.

Rubiales is currently in the Dominican Republic and, according to some Spanish press outlets, he is expected to return to Spain on April 6th.

The director left the presidency of the RFEF in September last year, after having forced a kiss on player Jenni Hermoso during the presentation of medals to the Spanish team for the women’s World Cup title.
