Mitrofanov said that the situation with Promes does not affect Russian football
General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov spoke about the situation with the detention in the UAE of convicted Spartak Moscow legionnaire Quincy Promes. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
In his opinion, what happened has nothing to do with Russian football, and therefore does not affect it. “The League and we expressed our position and assessed this. At the same time, I believe that it is right to wait for the decisions that have officially come into effect,” Mitrofanov said. He also noted that he considers the situation negative.
On March 13, Promes was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office. It was noted that the detention was related to the possibility of further extradition of the football player to the country.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
