Secretary General of the RFU Mitrofanov about UEFA head Čeferin: he is a supporter of the return of Russia
General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov assessed the position of the head of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Alexander Ceferin on the return of Russia to tournaments. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
“On the one hand, Ceferin made the decision to suspend the RFU. On the other hand, he is a systemic and comprehensive president. Alexander is trying to pursue a consistent policy,” said Mitrofanov, calling his colleague a supporter of the return of Russia. He also noted Čeferin’s support in the issue of admitting children’s and youth teams to competitions.
In September 2023, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams. As a result, no decision on admission was made.
Russian football clubs and national teams do not take part in international tournaments by decision of the International Football Federation and UEFA.
