IOC head Bach said that the ROC must follow the rules of the Olympic movement
The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, named a condition for restoring relations between the organization and Russia. His words are quoted by TASS.
Bach said that in order to restore membership in the IOC, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) must follow the rules of the Olympic movement. “If the ROC follows the rules, we will welcome them, at the moment the ball is in their court,” emphasized head Bach.
Last December, the IOC allowed Russians to participate in the Paris Olympics as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
On October 12, 2023, the IOC suspended the ROC until further notice due to the inclusion of representatives of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the organization. The suspension stipulates that the ROC will not function as a national Olympic committee or receive funding from the Olympic movement.
