Lawyer Zavyalova underestimated Quincy Promes’ chances of extradition to Russia
Lawyer Tatyana Zavyalova assessed the chances of Spartak legionnaire Quincy Promes, convicted in the Netherlands, of being extradited from the UAE to Russia. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
She considered the likelihood of such a development to be low. “To whom will the person be extradited: to the country that demands him, or to a third party?! They have the latest contract! From the point of view of international law, a person is extradited to the country of which he is a citizen,” Zavyalova noted.
Mash previously reported about the possible extradition of Promes to Russia. According to the source, the Dutchman owes the Federal Tax Service almost 400 thousand rubles. Because of this, a criminal case may be opened against the player and a demand to extradite him.
On March 13, Promes was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office. It was noted that the detention was related to the possibility of further extradition of the football player to the country. On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
