Pulmonologist and somnologist Dmitry Duikin named exercises that worsen sleep. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Late workouts can prevent the hormone melatonin from doing its job of slowing your heart rate, breathing rate, and body temperature. That’s why experts don’t recommend high-intensity, heat-producing workouts.
“Reducing the interval between exercise and going to bed can worsen the process of falling asleep and make sleep more shallow and restless,” Duikin explained. The doctor said that moderate exercise (swimming or stretching) should end two hours before bedtime, active sports and sports that require concentration (rock climbing, boxing, karate) – at least four hours.
Earlier, the chief freelance specialist for medical prevention of the Russian Ministry of Health, Lyubov Drozdova, called the exercise to reduce blood pressure. She advised hugging with loved ones.
