Fighter Makhachev refused a unification fight against Edwards at UFC 300
Russian mixed style (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev refused a unification fight at the anniversary tournament of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This was stated by the athlete’s representative, quoted by TASS.
The team said they were offered a dual title fight against Briton Leon Edwards at UFC 300.
“But the decision was made to refuse due to the actual impossibility of preparing properly. At this time, the month of Ramadan is underway,” the agency’s interlocutor said, adding that the fight could take place in the future.
UFC 300 will take place in Las Vegas on April 14, 2024. The promotion attracted current and former star fighters to participate in the anniversary event. As part of UFC 300, the fights announced are Charles Oliveira – Arman Tsarukyan, Jiri Prochazka – Alexander Rakic, Calvin Kattar – Aljamain Sterling and others. Alex Pereira and Jamal Hill will fight in the main event.
Makhachev holds the lightweight championship belt. He has 25 wins and only one defeat. Edwards is the current UFC welterweight champion. He won 22 fights, lost three, and another fight was declared a no contest.
