Spartak footballer Promes may receive a reprieve from extradition to the Netherlands
Lawyers for Spartak Moscow striker Quincy Promes spoke about the further progress of the case of the football player detained in Dubai. Their words are quoted by De Telegraaf.
According to the source, Promes may receive a deferment from extradition to the Netherlands for a year. It is noted that lawyers will be able to achieve this through constant appeals.
On March 13, Promes was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office. It was noted that the detention was related to the possibility of further extradition of the football player to the country.
On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai Airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Later it was clarified that the football player would not be sentenced to prison in the UAE – he would be punished with a fine.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
