Erika Mugartegi and Maialen Aldazabal were proclaimed this Monday champions of the Euskotren Winter Series of 2024by winning, in the final played at the Ezkurdi fronton, in Durango, against Helena Barrenetxea and Arai Lejardi in three sets, 10-15, 15-11 and 5-1. Erika and Maialen have thus come back in the grand final, in which their rivals have won the first set but in which they have managed to recover to finally win the txapela.
Helena and Arai started the match very strongly, and immediately gained an advantage on the scoreboard, in the first set. They were 4-1 and 5-2, before Erika and Maialen were close to equalizing, at 4-5. The Durango forward and the Markina-Xemein defender, at that point, have chained together three more goals, which have taken them to 8-4 at the long break of the set. Helena and Arai, more successful than their rivals, have stretched the difference to eight points, at 14-6, which seemed definitive; Erika and Maialen have scored four goals, making it 10-14, which preceded the final 15-10.
In the second setAfter an even start, Helena and Arai managed to score 7-3, which seemed to leave them close to the txapela; but Erika and Maialen have turned the game around and also the scoreboard. The champions went into the break ahead, 8-7, and at 9-7 they already had a partial score of 6-0, which they did well at the end of the set; The 15-11 scoreline for Ezkurdi left everything pending for the tiebreaker set.
