The American Matteo Jorgenson (Visma) has been proclaimed king of the 82nd edition of the Paris-Nice after the dispute of the eighth and final stage starting and finishing in the capital of the Riviera, of 109.3 km, in which the Belgian won Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step), second on the podium.

Jorgenson, former Movistar rider, confirmed himself as a star signing for Visma, taking advantage of the first great opportunity by winning the Paris-Nice against rivals such as Evenepoel or the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, initially the big favorites.

On the last day he shared the definitive getaway with Evenepoel, both the main protagonists. The Belgian took the stage, resigned to his fate, unable to let go of Jorgenson throughout the entire route. He raised his arms on Nice’s Promenade des Anglais as a consolation prize, his fourth victory of the season.

Jorgenson crossed the line by throwing his fist in the air, his first big win. In third position he led Vlasov at 52 seconds. Later, at 1.39, the Danish Skjelmose and the leader Brandon McNultywho at least maintained third place on the podium.

The third time was the charm and opened the way accompanied by Jorgenson and Vlasovalthough the latter did not resist and dropped with 10 kilometers to go.

They both crowned the “Cuatro Caminos” summit together, with Roglic’s group and former leader McNulty more than 2 minutes away. The die was cast. Remco won his first stage in his first French stage race, and Jorgenson his third victory, until today he has only won the general classification and one stage of the Tour of Oman 2023 on his resume.
