Premier League confirms year-end games amid delays due to covid-19

A Premier League released, on Monday, a statement regarding the end-of-year matches. After meeting with club representatives, it was decided to “continue with the current game schedule whenever possible”.

The last round of the Premier League featured duels postponed as a result of covid-19 in the UK. Athletes also tested positive for the coronavirus and defrauded their teams.

“The health and well-being of everyone involved remains our priority and the League will continue to monitor and reflect public health guidelines, always proceeding with caution”, says the published note.

In total, six matches initially planned did not take place: Aston Villa vs Burnley, Manchester United vs Brighton, Southampton vs Brentford, Watford vs Crystal Palace, West Ham vs Norwich and Everton vs Leicester. In addition to the aforementioned clashes, another four games were also postponed in the 16th and 17th rounds.

The Premier League also reported that “92% of players and club staff received one, two or three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, with 84% of players on the vaccination schedule.”

“Players who have received one or two doses should wait the appropriate period before receiving their second vaccination or booster. The League continues to work with clubs to encourage vaccination among players and staff, as well as promote the Government’s public health vaccination messages to clubs and the general public.”

The Premier League has 20 games scheduled until the end of 2021. The 19th round will have nine games in the traditional Boxing Day, on December 26th, and another on the 27th. The 20th round, in turn, has duels scheduled for the 28th, 29th and 30th.
