The finalists of the Gagarin Cup, CSKA and Ak Bars, were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs
Kazan Ak Bars lost to Ekaterinburg Avtomobilist in the fifth match of the Gagarin Cup playoff series. The results are available on the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) website.
The meeting took place in Kazan and ended in a victory for the guests with a score of 2:1. Alexey Byvaltsev and Semyon Kizimov scored goals among the winners. The only goal for Kazan was scored by striker Alexander Radulov.
Thus, Ak Bars was eliminated from the Gagarin Cup, losing the series with a score of 1-4. Avtomobilist’s opponent in the quarter finals of the tournament will be determined later. Earlier, the current owner, CSKA Moscow, was eliminated from the Gagarin Cup. In the 2022/2023 season, the team defeated Ak Bars in a best-of-four series with a score of 4:3. Thus, both finalists of the Gagarin Cup were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
