Elena Vyalbe: foreigners want to compete with Russians, but they were told to remain silent
President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe spoke about the desire of foreigners to compete with Russians. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“Athletes may certainly want to compete with us, but they cannot decide anything. They were told to sit, be afraid, be silent,” said Vyalbe, noting that athletes always want to compete only with the strongest opponents.
Earlier, three-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Alexander Bolshunov said that the Norwegians are waiting for the Russians to return to international tournaments. “The guys from the marathon series recently wrote: “We are waiting for you in Trondheim.” It seems like there are more and more of them every day,” he shared.
On October 25, 2023, the Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation extended sanctions against Russian athletes. For the first time, restrictions on the performance of Russians at international ski tournaments were imposed in March 2022.
