Next May 25, starting at 6:00 p.m., the stadium San Mamés of Bilbao will host for the first time a UEFA Women’s Champions League final. This is the second women’s football grand final in the history of Euskadi, since in 2020, the final played by the Wolfsburg and the Lyon took place at the Reale Arena in Saint Sebastian. The French team won 1-3.

Thus, this morning a life-size bronze sculpture was placed in Bilbao at the end of Licensed Poza Street on the corner of Luis Briñas Street, a transit area for fans when they go to the stadium. The statue represents girls like Nahia, a girl who looks excited and proud at the stadium, stepping on a ball and dreaming of playing finals in emblematic stadiums surrounded by her fans and one day being European Champion, as other girls have already achieved.

‘Nahia’ thus becomes icon of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final 2024 and in a hallmark of equality and values such as respect, inclusion and diversity in women’s football; The statue aims to become an icon at the forefront of the commitment to equal opportunities in sport, and is accompanied by a plaque commemorating this year’s final.
