Viner said that the Averina sisters did not want to perform under the white flag

President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner explained the decision of the sisters Dina and Arina Averin to end their sports career. Her statement is quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to her, the Russians did not want to compete under a neutral white flag. “This was the general decision of the coaching council and the athletes, who are accustomed to performing when the Russian national flag is raised in honor of their victories,” said Wiener.

The fact that the 25-year-old sisters decided to end their professional performances became known on February 23. Wiener noted that the Averins took up government work.

Dina Averina won silver at the Tokyo Olympics in the individual all-around. She also has 18 victories at the World Championships and 10 at the European Championships. Arina Averina became world champion five times and European champion nine times.
