Guberniev said that decent clubs would have abandoned the football player Promes long ago
Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev ridiculed the return of football player Quincy Promes, convicted in the Netherlands for drug trafficking, to Moscow Spartak. His words are quoted by Sport24.
“I am delighted! I think we will need to gather a delegation and meet him at the airport, because such people adorn Russian football,” the journalist said. In his opinion, decent clubs would have abandoned the contract with Promes long ago.
On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai. Later it became known that the football player would not be sentenced to prison – he would be punished with a fine. As a result, he will have to be able to return to Moscow.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. According to investigators, in 2019 the player was involved in transporting a large shipment of cocaine that belonged to Surinamese drug trafficker Piet Wartel. After the verdict was announced, the winger was put on the international wanted list.
