Alexander Alaev about Quincy Promes: the convicted football player should not play in the RPL
President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev made a statement about the performances of striker Quincy Promes, convicted in the Netherlands, in Spartak Moscow. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Alaev said that if criminal punishment is proven, the football player should not play in the RPL. At the same time, he emphasized that while the appeal is ongoing, it is impossible to call Promes a criminal.
On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai. The Dutchman was taken to the police station and was accompanied by red and white security officers.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. According to investigators, in 2019 the player was involved in transporting a large shipment of cocaine that belonged to Surinamese drug trafficker Piet Wartel. After the verdict was announced, the winger was put on the international wanted list.
