The Dutch prosecutor’s office responded to information about the detention of Spartak Moscow striker Quincy Promes, who was convicted in absentia in Amsterdam for transporting drugs. The words of the press secretary of the appeal department of the prosecutor’s office, Tusha Essed, are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Essed stated that the prosecutor’s office was not aware of the football player’s detention.

Earlier on February 29, it became known that the legionnaire was not allowed on the plane from Dubai to Moscow. The footballer was detained at border control at Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai and has been in the police station for several hours. It was noted that the incident was not related to criminal cases in the Netherlands.

On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. According to investigators, in 2019 the player was involved in transporting a large shipment of cocaine that belonged to Surinamese drug trafficker Piet Wartel.
