Honorary President of the FFKKR Piseev called the return of figure skater Valieva difficult
Honorary President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Valentin Piseev assessed Kamila Valieva’s chances of returning to the sport. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Piseev expressed hope that the skater would resume her career, but called it a very difficult matter. In his opinion, Valieva’s moral strength is not limitless. “God willing, she is strong, but she has to go through so much… But hope dies last,” said the honorary president of the FFKKR.
On January 31, Valieva interrupted training with Eteri Tutberidze due to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify her. The 17-year-old athlete was required to do this due to a four-year ban, as she cannot train with public money.
On January 29, CAS disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. The doping scandal surrounding Valieva unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games, when traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the figure skater’s sample from December 2021. The athlete and her partners on the Russian national team were deprived of gold for winning the team tournament of the Beijing Games.
