Russian taekwondo athletes Khramtsov, Minina and Khan will compete for a ticket to the 2024 Olympics
Russian taekwondo athletes Maxim Khramtsov, Tatyana Minina and Polina Khan will compete for a ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. RIA Novosti reports that three more Russian athletes received a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games on Wednesday, February 21.
It is noted that the finalists of the qualifying tournament, where the Russians will perform, will win licenses for the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and not personal ones. Athletes who qualify for the finals in their weight categories will receive tickets to the Olympics. World Taekwondo will confirm the quotas on March 15th.
2020 Olympic champion Khramtsov will compete in the category up to 80 kilograms, silver medalist of the Games in Japan Minina will compete in the category up to 57 kilograms, and bronze medalist of the World and European Championships Khan will compete in the category over 67 kilograms. The qualifying tournament will take place in Bulgaria on March 9-10.
Previously, another Russian Olympic champion in Tokyo, Vladislav Larin, won a ticket to the 2024 Olympics. The athlete competes in the weight category over 80 kilograms.
In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
