The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the collapse of the Olympic movement

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova spoke about the current state of affairs on the world sports arena. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.

“It seems to me that we need to talk not so much about personalities, but about what is happening globally. And there is literally a collapse of the Olympic movement – there are obvious signs and evidence of this,” Zakharova said. In her opinion, many athletes, coaches and functionaries have long known that politics interferes in world sports.

In addition, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assessed the prospects for the Olympic movement. “Globally, the Olympic movement was a global heritage. But, unfortunately, now, in my opinion, we see not just corrosion and not just metal fatigue – perhaps an irreversible process that leads to the complete collapse of Olympism,” Zakharova noted.

At the end of January this year, Zakharova already shared her opinion on the modern Olympic movement. Then she said that Olympism is being destroyed by the West through inventing different genders, allowing men to participate in women’s competitions and vice versa.

In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of the two countries will not be allowed to participate in the Games. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
