A Russian fan of Kosovo said that there was no discrimination in prison in France

Russian football fan Pavel Kosov told how he was treated in prison in France. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Kosov stated that conditions in detention were normal and he did not feel discriminated against. “They don’t divide prisoners into “Russian” or “non-Russian.” My environment was more or less normal. Mostly Arabs, African continent. “Roughly speaking, they support our government,” the man shared.

Kosov noted that he felt support from Russia. In particular, he thanked another football fan, Mikhail Ivkin, who was detained with him and was in custody, but was released earlier.

Kosov and Ivkin were detained due to riots in Marseille at Euro 2016. More than 200 people took part in the fight between Russian and English fans.

In 2020, a French court sentenced Kosov and Ivkin, who had been in custody since 2018, to ten and three years in prison, respectively. Ivkin was released in December 2020, Kosov was released on parole in January 2024.
