Naturalized American hockey player spoke out about the removal of Russians

Menell said that the suspension of the Russians does not make sense for world hockey

Naturalized American defender of Dynamo Moscow Brennan Menell spoke about the exclusion of Russians from international tournaments. He is quoted by TASS.

Menell said that sanctions against the Russian team do not make sense for world hockey. “At international tournaments you always want to see the strongest play against the strongest. Russia has always been a hockey country; there have always been a lot of talented and high-quality players. And the Russian team is always one of the strongest teams in the world,” he explained.

Menell received a Russian passport on August 1. Also, the 26-year-old hockey player can now play for the Russian national team. He has been playing for the capital club since September 2022.

On February 13, the International Hockey Federation extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams for the 2024/2025 season. Sanctions were first introduced in February 2022.
