Figure skater Dmitry Aliev said that he has no drive at Russian tournaments
2020 European figure skating champion Dmitry Aliev spoke about the disadvantages of Russian tournaments. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The athlete shared that due to international isolation, all competitions have become the same: only the name changes, but the participants remain the same. “They are cool, I don’t argue, but I’m so used to the guys that you go out and think… I don’t want to insult the guys, but I don’t have the drive, you know,” he said.
On February 16, figure skating competitions started at the Spartakiad. After the short program, Evgeniy Semenenko became the leader among the singles skaters, scoring 104.84 points. Aliyev received 88.99 points and is in eighth place.
Russians are missing out on international competitions due to sanctions from the International Skating Federation. They were introduced on March 1, 2022.
