Chechen swimming medalist Golovin was disqualified for five years for doping
The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) has suspended swimmer Igor Golovin for five years. This is reported on the organization’s website.
The 34-year-old athlete was suspended from competition for five years. RUSADA found him guilty of violating two points of the rules: “the presence of a prohibited substance, or its metabolites, or markers in a sample taken from an athlete” and “the use or attempted use by an athlete of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method.” Details are not disclosed. The disqualification starts on January 9 this year.
Golovin is a bronze medalist at the Russian Championship in the 50-meter breaststroke. He also repeatedly became a medalist at the national short course championship.
Earlier it became known that 409 doping cases initiated against Russian athletes from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory (LIMS) database were closed without sanctions. The information was obtained through a confidential report from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
