IIHF head Tardif called on Russia to comply with the rules for returning to tournaments

The President of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), Luc Tardif, responded to a letter from the Russian youth team regarding the suspension from competitions. His words are quoted by Match TV.

Tardif called on Russia to comply with the rules for returning to tournaments and recalled that disciplinary investigations are ongoing between the IIHF and the Russian side in a number of cases.

“The first thing is compliance with the contract. The second is compliance with international transfer rules. The third is compliance with the sanctions imposed by the IIHF and the independent disciplinary board. I have a question: does Russian hockey really want to return to competitions under the auspices of the IIHF?” – said the head of the organization.

Earlier, the players of the Russian youth team turned to the IIHF for an explanation of the reasons why the team has already missed three world championships. “We want to know the truth, to hear an honest answer, and not bureaucratic excuses hidden behind standard template answers,” they noted in the letter.

On February 13, the IIHF extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams for the 2024/2025 season.
