Malkin hoped for a quick return of the Russian national team to international tournaments
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin spoke about the removal of the Russian national hockey team from international tournaments. His words are quoted by The Athletic.
The athlete hoped for a quick return of the team. “It’s a little hard to understand because we play in the NHL, but we can’t play for the national team – it’s a little hard. Of course, I want young guys to play,” Malkin said.
According to the Russian, all his compatriots want to play for the national team. “Look at football – how cool the World Cup is, how many people watch it,” he added.
On February 13, the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams. The reason was current security risks. The head of the IIHF, Luc Tardif, clarified that the issue of the participation of the Russian team in the Olympic Games will be resolved in February-March 2025.
