Hiddink: Russia’s suspension will not allow the new Arshavin or Golovin to reveal themselves
Former head coach of the Russian national team Guus Hiddink spoke about the exclusion of Russian football players from international tournaments. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
Hiddink said that football should have a unifying function. “Perhaps the removal of Russia will not allow new things to open up [Андрею] Arshavin or [Александру] Golovin, there is nothing good in this for football,” he emphasized.
Earlier it became known that the Russian Football Union refused to join the Asian Football Confederation. It was noted that the organization will continue to contact the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) regarding the return of Russians to tournaments.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team has lost the opportunity to fight for access to the finals of the World and European Championships.
