Vasiliev proposed banning therapeutic exceptions for the purity of sport
Two-time Olympic champion in biathlon Dmitry Vasiliev proposed banning therapeutic exceptions for the purity of the sport. His words are quoted by TASS.
Vasiliev called asthmatics in cross-country skiing and biathlon, who legally use prohibited drugs, scammers, and said that their victories over healthy athletes are absurd. In his opinion, because of this, professional sports is now turning into a parody.
“I have already proposed, as an experiment, a moratorium on all therapeutic exceptions. You will see that after this there will be no Norwegians, Swedes and many others on the podium, completely unexpected people will appear who honestly train and run solely at the expense of their health,” Vasiliev shared.
Earlier, two-time Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Ishmuratova called tournaments without Russians competitions for asthmatics. She noted that she is not interested in such competitions.
Russian skiers and biathletes do not take part in international competitions due to sanctions from international federations.
