The Ecuadorian had a late reaction in the fight and was overtaken by the English.
Ecuadorian boxer Carlos Góngora (20-0-1, with 15 knockouts) fell this Saturday, December 18, against Englishman Lerrone Richards by split decision of the judges, and the tricolor lost undefeated and the belt of the super middle category in his second defense, in the function that took place in the Manchester Arena, in Manchester (England). Gongora’s fight was one of the main ones on the ‘Parker vs. Chisora ’.
The second title defense of the tricolor in the super middle division of the International Boxing Organization (IBO, for its acronym in English) took place against an opponent who also arrived undefeated to the fight: 15-0-0, with 3 knockouts ; now 16-0-0, with the same number of knockouts.
The fight lasted until 12 rounds, but it was not enough for the Ecuadorian, who was well studied by his rival and had a late reaction in the fight.
Góngora became IBO world champion on December 18, 2020 by knocking out Kazakh Ali Akhmedov in the twelfth round, and retained the belt on April 17 by defeating by technical knockout in the eighth round American Christopher Pearson, in what had been his only fight of the year.
In the stellar duel this Saturday, at the Manchester Arena, the former New Zealand world champion Joseph Parker meets, in a revenge duel, with the English contender Derek Chisora. (D)
