Senator Baskov called the refusal of Russian hockey players to accept awards unacceptable
Senator of Belarus, former chairman of the country’s Hockey Federation Dmitry Baskov commented on the refusal of the Russian junior team (under 18 years old) to receive awards at the international Future Cup tournament in Minsk. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
Basque called the behavior of Russians unacceptable. He felt that this was contrary to the friendship and support that has always existed between the countries.
The Russian junior team refused awards at the Future Cup on February 10. Domestic athletes lost in overtime to the youth team of Belarus, made up of players no older than 20 years old, with a score of 5:6, and should have received medals for second place.
In February 2022, the International Ice Hockey Federation suspended the Russian national team from participating in competitions under its auspices. The country was also deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup, which was to be held in St. Petersburg.
