CAS: Kamila Valieva explained that doping got into her body because of her grandfather
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has revealed the explanation of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva about the entry of the prohibited substance trimetazidine into her body. This is reported in the reasoning part of the decision on disqualification, published on the CAS website.
According to the skater, her grandfather was to blame for the incident, who prepared a strawberry dessert for the Russian woman on a cutting board on which he had previously crushed his pills. “The CAS Panel determined that this explanation was not supported by any specific evidence and that the Athlete was unable to establish that she did not commit an anti-doping violation intentionally,” the decision reads.
CAS previously reported that Valieva took 60 approved medications and supplements between 2020 and 2021. It was also clarified that her positive doping test contained the legal steroid ecdysterone.
On January 29, CAS suspended Valieva for four years for using trimetazidine. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021.
