The oldest football player in the world has fallen from the Japanese top league, but he does not think about his retirement. There will be a transfer

Kazuyoshi Miura has just finished his 17th season at Yokohama FC in Japan. Previously, the 54-year-old forward represented clubs such as Santos, Genoa and Dinamo Zagreb. He was, inter alia, the first footballer from Japan to make his Serie A debut (in 1994). He started his football career even before the birth of Leo Messi or Robert Lewandowski.

In recent years, Miura has broken records related to his age. In 2017, at 50 years and 14 days, the Japanese became the oldest goal scorer in the domestic field. At the age of 53, six months and 28 days, he became the oldest player in the J1 League, the Japanese league.

The 54-year-old footballer does not intend to end his career. “I want to pursue my passion”

Yokohama FC, with the 54-year-old footballer, has been relegated from Japan’s top division this season. The club took the last 20th place in the league with only 27 points. However, Miura’s share in this decline was minimal, as he only played a minute during the entire season that had just ended.

Despite the fact that the coach of Yokohama FC is no longer betting on Miura, the club offered the player an extension of his contract. The latter, however, will probably not take advantage of it because, as he says himself, he is looking for a club with a “clear vision”. The 54-year-old certainly does not think about retirement and intends to play football again, but probably at a lower level.

– For the last 10 years I have been saying that if there is a team that wants and needs me, I will leave no matter what league they are in. It hasn’t changed. As long as I have a passion, of course I want to pursue it – Miura told the daily “Nikkan Sports”, which informed that the player is considering several offers from clubs from the fourth level of the competition.
