Patients who test positive for COVID-19 who are treated on an outpatient basis should not self-prescribe medication. According to RIA Novosti, the doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov said this on the Russia 1 TV channel.
He explained that the coronavirus causes acute respiratory infections, which cannot be treated with drugs, as well as COVID-viral pneumonia with a certain mortality rate. People who have the coronavirus but show no signs of pneumonia should not take certain medications.
Myasnikov pointed out that one should not prescribe treatment for oneself, “having read and heard a lot.” Thus, blood thinners should not be taken when there is no pneumonia. This is fraught with disorders of cerebral circulation and gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
Self-medication with steroid hormones is also dangerous. They, according to the doctor, are intended only for intubated patients, and in other patients they can cause undesirable consequences.
Myasnikov recalled that the best way to protect yourself from the severe course of the disease remains early vaccination.
