Rossi Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin announced the growing authority of the country in the international sports arena. His words are quoted by Sport Express.

The functionary spoke at the opening of the Winter Spartakiad of students. “Over the past years, Russia has strengthened its authority in the international sports arena; we have proven that we are a self-sufficient country. Russia held major competitions in winter and summer sports,” Matytsin said.

At the end of February – beginning of March 2022, many international sports organizations suspended Russian athletes from competitions under their auspices. In some events, athletes from the Russian Federation compete in a neutral status.

At the same time, decisions were made to deprive Russia of the right to host major international tournaments. In particular, the country did not host the World Volleyball Championship, the youth and adult hockey championships of the planet and the final of the Champions League football.
