Lucas Eguibar wins bronze at the Cervinia World Cup

Lucas Eguibar, current World Champion, has once again stood out in the World Cup, climbing to the third drawer of the event held in Cervinia (Italy).

The San Sebastian has shown why he is in all the pools. He slid solidly and firmly through the marked circuit on the Valle d’Aosta track. On Friday he was the best in the qualifying round and this Saturday he was again the fastest in both the eighths as in the quarter finals. In the round of 16 he advanced to the next round together with the Swiss Kalle Koblet, beating Álvaro Romero, also a Basque Team recipient, and Alex Debold from the United States. In the quarter-finals he was faster than the almighty Alessandro Haemmerle, Koblet and the Italian Filippo Ferrari.

Semifinal

The semifinal has not started too well, as Lucas has been relegated to the fourth position. However, he has managed to keep his nerves under control and, with noteworthy patience, has waited for a mistake from his opponents. The Austrian Haemmerle and the Japanese Yoshiki Takahara have suffered a collision that has ended with the drop of both, a circumstance that Lucas has taken advantage of to advance to second position.

Final

Already in the grand final the Austrian Jakob Dusek and the Canadian Eliot Grondin have been better. Lucas Eguibar has had to settle for a bronze that has a very sweet taste, as it puts him back on the podium, after World Cup gold and Reiteralm World Cup silver almost a year ago.

Next target

After the Christmas break, a season full of emotion awaits you, with the Crystal Globe of the World Cup general at stake, but also with the pressure of being one of the candidates to obtain a medal in the Beijing Games, to be played in February.

“I’m very happy”

“I am very happy, excited, it has been a very long summer with my back problems, I have even considered quitting because it was not improving. But we are here again and I am very happy. The victory has escaped us because of the mistakes I have made but we have to keep working. Enjoy Christmas now and come back stronger “, declared Lucas Eguibar.
