The ROC announced mysteries in the Valieva case

Honorary President of the ROC Zhukov said that there are many mysteries in the Kamila Valieva case

Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov spoke about the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by Match TV.

Zhukov said that there are many mysteries in this story, since Valieva was the strongest athlete at that time, which means she did not need doping. “The second mystery is that the sample was taken long before the Olympics. If it was known then, why was she allowed to compete?” he asked.

On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she took doping unintentionally.

Thus, the athlete was deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing as part of the Russian team, and the Russian team moved from first place to third. In addition, Valieva was left without the title of champion of Russia and Europe.

A doping scandal surrounding the athlete unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
