Wiener said that she does not believe in a positive outcome in the case of her removal
President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFKhG) Irina Viner spoke about the consideration of the case of her suspension in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Wiener said she has little faith in the positive outcome of the case. “With the current political situation in the world, I don’t think anything will change. If it changes, it will be the merit of very honest and qualified international lawyers,” she noted.
An appeals tribunal previously upheld Wiener’s suspension. She will not be able to work at international tournaments from March 6, 2023 to March 5, 2025. She was also ordered to pay five thousand Swiss francs for the costs of the appeal.
On March 6, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Wiener for two years due to a scandal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where she spoke critically about the judging of the competition. In addition, the head of the WFHG withdrew the candidacy of Russian Natalia Kuzmina from the elections to the FIG technical committee in 2021.
In September 2021, Wiener withdrew Kuzmina’s candidacy from the elections, emphasizing that “she did something nasty at the Olympic Games.” The reason was the judging of the Russian woman at the Games in Tokyo, where the Israeli Lina Ashram became the winner in the individual all-around, beating the Russian Dina Averina. At the same time, the representative of Israel dropped an object during her last speech.
