Antseliovich said that Valieva can reduce her suspension thanks to the assistance of
Sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich named the only way for Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva to reduce her four-year disqualification for doping. Her words are quoted by Tatar-inform.
She talked about the concept of substantial assistance. “If an athlete, during the period of her disqualification, helps anti-doping organizations uncover violations of anti-doping rules by other athletes or her personnel, then this may serve as a basis for reducing the sanction imposed,” Antseliovich noted.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she took doping unintentionally.
The doping scandal surrounding Valieva unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021.
