Doctor Shestakov called the discovery of other drugs in Valieva’s doping test a shock
Doctor of Medical Sciences Andrei Shestakov assessed the information about three other drugs, in addition to the prohibited trimetazidine, found in the positive doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by Sport24.
According to the doctor, such strong drugs cannot enter the body accidentally. “As a doctor, I was shocked that the girl was stuffed with so many pills and stimulants. This is very dangerous for the body. Now the information about anabolic steroids looks terrible,” Shestakov noted.
The doctor emphasized that the athlete could not independently decide on the use of drugs. “Valieva’s coaching staff and her doctors must take responsibility. This is a terrible crime from a medical point of view,” Shestakov said.
Earlier on February 2, the Finnish television and radio company Yle stated that hypoxene and L-carnitine, as well as an unspecified drug with an anabolic effect, were found in Valieva’s sample. Moreover, all substances are permitted.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. Then traces of trimetazidine were found in her sample.
