Tarasova called those who banned Latvians from competing with Russian national teams sick
Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova appreciated the decision of the Latvian Seimas to ban the country’s team sports teams from competing with teams from Russia and Belarus. Her words are quoted by Match TV.
The specialist called people who adopted amendments to the Latvian law on sports sick. “They will have to not perform anywhere. They probably don’t have anyone to perform. I wouldn’t like to upset them, but next year we will compete in all competitions,” Tarasova said.
The adoption of the amendments became known earlier on February 1. They imply that the ban will apply even if Russians and Belarusians perform under a neutral flag.
On January 15, the Latvian Seimas addressed French President Emmanuel Macron and demanded that Russians not be allowed to attend the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It was noted that some Latvian athletes are ready to boycott competitions if neutral athletes from Russia and Belarus participate in them.
