The super league is to include the Ekstraklasa, the first league and the second league. There will be eight teams in each division. We already know the six clubs competing at the highest level. These are: BKT Advange Bielsko-Biała, Górnik Bytom, AZS Poznań, CKT Grodzisk Mazowiecki, UKS Beskidy Ustroń and Olimpia Poznań Tennis Park.
Each team will feature tennis players, singles and doubles. In the event of a tie, the mix will decide. Clubs can contract any players, there will be no limit of foreign tennis players in the league.
New tennis competitions
The main season will start on May 29, in the first week. It is hard to assume that in this case the game will attract the world’s top tennis players. However, the Polish Tennis Association hopes that in the next stages such players will come to Poland. The plan is simple: the regular season will include seven queues to be played every Sunday from May 29 to mid-August. The final tournament will be held in Zielona Góra on December 10-11.
On December 12, the first transfer window for player sourcing was opened. – The second transfer window is planned in November and it is not accidental, because then the teams will know where they are standing, whether they will play for the title or for maintenance. The last team will be relegated to the lower league, and the penultimate team will play a relegation match with the second-placed league in the table. Therefore, in November it will be possible to strengthen the squads. Talks are already being held with really big names, even with a representative of the male Top 10 – reveals PZT president Mirosław Skrzypczyński. – We are glad that the project, the details of which are about to be finalized, is of such great interest to clubs and tennis players. This proves that the professional league in Polish tennis is needed and is a space for the development of this discipline. In each of the countries where there is a professional league, tennis has developed strongly and it will be the same in Poland. And in the Tennis Super League it is also important that the strength of each team will be determined by the players. This is extremely important in the context of the development of women’s sport – said Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk, the president of the board of Superliga, former minister of sport, at a press conference.
The announcements are very bold. It remains to wait for the results of the preparations for the Super League. However, it should be remembered that attracting tennis stars will not be easy, because even after the season, each of them expects a lot of money for their performance. In addition, let’s remember that the recent Poland-Czech Republic show match was also announced as a great event, and ultimately the best tennis players from both sides did not participate in it: Iga, Hubert, Karolina Pliskova or Barbora Krejcikova.
