President Vladimir Putin said that without Russia, sports competitions are flawed
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that competitions without domestic athletes are inferior. His words are quoted by TASS.
The President emphasized that any restrictions in sports are restrictions on human rights, adding that the sport of great achievements is very commercialized. He drew attention to the fact that officials at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) are about to expire, and they are now doing everything to justify the trust of those who support them.
On December 8, 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. Six Russians and five Belarusians have currently qualified for the Games.
In December 2019, the WADA Executive Committee decided to deprive Russia of the right to host the Olympic Games and World Championships, and Russian athletes of the flag and anthem for four years. The reason was the deprivation of RUSADA’s compliance status. In November 2022, WADA decided to extend the suspension of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency.
