ROC will appeal against the deprivation of the Russian team of gold in the 2022 Olympic Games team tournament
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is appealing the deprivation of the Russian team of gold in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Games. This was reported in the organization’s Telegram channel.
It is noted that lawyers have begun preparing the necessary documents for filing an appeal. “In accordance with the current, applicable rules of the International Skating Union (ISU), the consequences of a sanction decision regarding an individual athlete, in this case Kamila Valieva, cannot be a basis for reviewing the results of a team tournament,” the statement said, adding that the legal position is based, inter alia, on existing precedents in the practice of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

On January 30, the ISU decided to redistribute the Olympic team tournament medals due to the disqualification and cancellation of Valieva’s results. The Russian team (Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov) moved from first to third place, gold went to the USA, silver to Japan.
On January 29, CAS suspended Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The period of suspension is counted from December 25, 2021, all her results for this period are canceled. The fact that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the figure skater’s sample from December 2021 became known after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Games.
