Russian tennis player Shevchenko changed his sports citizenship to Kazakhstan

Russian tennis player Alexander Shevchenko decided to change his sports citizenship. He announced this on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).

The 22-year-old athlete said that he is very proud of the opportunity to play for the Kazakhstan national team. “I can’t wait to get on the court, trying to give unforgettable moments to myself and the country,” he emphasized.

The President of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishchev, announced Shevchenko’s desire to change his sports citizenship in October 2023. It was noted then that a final decision on this issue had not yet been made.

Shevchenko is in 48th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He did not win any tournaments under the auspices of the organization. Last December, Shevchenko married Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova.
