This Wednesday, FIFA released a statement regarding the incidents that occurred in the match between England and Hungary, by the World Cup qualifiers. The text also encompasses the Albania x confusion Poland.
“Fifa strongly condemns the incidents in England vs. Hungary and Albania vs. Poland and would like to state that its position remains firm and resolute in rejecting any form of violence, as well as discrimination and abuse,” the organization wrote in a statement.
On Tuesday, Hungarians clashed with police officers in Wembley. One fan was even arrested while the ball was rolling, as he reportedly uttered racist words to a security guard at the stadium. Also according to the London Metropolitan Police, two people were detained due to clashes in the stands, and another three, already outside the stadium, for “disorder” and “drunkenness”.
In September, the Hungarian Football Federation was punished by FIFA as a result of “racist behavior of various fans” in the match against England in Budapest.
Last Tuesday, in Tirana, the Albanian capital, fans threw objects on the pitch after the visiting team opened the scoring in the 32nd minute of the second half. After a break of half an hour, the match was resumed and completed.
Due to the aforementioned incidents, the federation says that “it is currently analyzing reports from the last night’s matches, from the qualifiers for the World Cup, in order to determine the most appropriate action.”
“Fifa has a very clear zero tolerance against such abominable behavior in football,” added the governing body of football.
